Women are not just turning to organic food, they want organic hair colours. Double Bay hairdresser Joseph Mourad has seen an increase in the number of women contacting his salon because he uses only organic hair colours.

To cope with demand, Mourad sends hair colours to women all over Australia to take to their own hairdressers.

Mourad started to use alternative colours nine years ago after suffering breathing problems and server headaches. He found studies that showed a link between hairdressers using permanent hair colours for more than five years with higher incidences of breast and bladder cancer.

“I became very health aware after suffering my own health problems and discovered this organic colour,” he said. Mourad will use the colours in his role as the hairdresser of Australia’s Miss Earth 2005 beauty pageant at Sydney Town Hall on Friday night.

The winner will progress to the global final in October in the Philippines.
